About this guide
This guide is for a preinstalled Ask Sage Edge appliance. For a delivered portable kit, follow Appliance kit setup for illustrated cabling, startup, and shutdown instructions. For other hardware, use the installation and startup instructions supplied with your deployment, then follow the common workspace and Appliance Manager steps below. For a customer-hosted cluster, have your infrastructure team complete installation before the sign-in and verification steps.
Before you start
Have the appliance hardware, its specified power and network connections, a laptop, tablet, or phone with a browser, and your deployment’s initial sign-in details. A supplied credential card contains the kit’s first sign-in details; keep it with your organization’s protected credentials. Regular use does not require a monitor or keyboard attached to the appliance. Your workstation must be able to reach the appliance network. Local operation does not require public internet access.
Connect and power on
- Install the hardware in its designated location, with the required mounting, ventilation, and cooling.
- Connect each node to the designated network. Connect your workstation to the same approved network, or to a network that can reach the appliance.
- If your deployment uses an inter-node or GPU interconnect, connect it according to the supplied cabling diagram.
- Connect the specified power supplies and cables for the hardware.
- Power on the appliance in the sequence documented for your deployment. Allow several minutes for services to become ready. The supplied kit can take up to about 15 minutes on its first start while the included model loads; see kit startup.
For a multi-node appliance, keep all required nodes powered and connected. The Manager discovers the nodes in your deployment; no fixed node count is required by these instructions.
Open the workspace
- Open the workspace URL in your handover record. The standard address is https://chat.edge.asksage.ai.
- Sign in with the account supplied by your organization, or follow its account provisioning instructions.
- If your account uses an initial password, change it using the available account controls and your organization’s password policy.
- Start a conversation and select an available local model.
- Send a short prompt, such as “Write a three-item checklist for preparing a meeting.” Confirm that a response arrives.
If the browser cannot find the site, check network access and DNS with your administrator. If it reports a certificate error, confirm the correct hostname and certificate trust. See Network and certificates.
Administrator acceptance check
Open the Appliance Manager at the address supplied during handover and sign in with a Manager account.
- In Overview, record the installed version and confirm the core services are healthy.
- In Model Management, confirm all expected nodes are present and ready.
- Confirm at least one approved chat model is loaded. A catalog entry alone does not mean the model is serving.
- For local operation, select Local under Overview → Inference mode.
- Return to the workspace, refresh the model list, and test chat.
- Upload a small, approved test document and ask a question whose answer appears in it. This checks document processing and retrieval as well as chat.
If a node or service remains unavailable, use Troubleshooting before starting updates or changing models.
